No trouble at memorial services for Outlaws member slain by federal agent | Washington Examiner

No trouble at memorial services for Outlaws member slain by federal agent | Washington Examiner: "Funeral and memorial services Saturday for an Outlaws motorcycle club member slain by federal agents were undisturbed amid heavy security and sightings of rival gang members.
Police Chief Dana M. Kelley of Old Orchard Beach said Diablos members were spotted Saturday and other rival bikers reportedly were seen during the week. The Outlaws remained true to their word, he said, to keep the peace during their services for Thomas Mayne.
'They've all been polite talking to us,' Kelley said. 'They allegedly aren't looking for trouble.'
Mayne, 58, was killed June 15 after agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tried to arrest him at his home. He was one of 27 Outlaws members from many states named in a federal indictment out of Virginia charging them with a range of crimes from attempted murder and racketeering to drug and firearms violations.
At the private funeral in Mayne's hometown, a friend of Mayne's said as he left the funeral at Cathedral Pines that the biker was loyal to his friends."

Jesse Leigh Bitz, 38, was charged last
December in relation to an incident Aug. 30, 2009, after he was arrested for public intoxication.
His lawyer, Morris Bodnar, suggested the charge was laid four months after the minor incident because Bitz was scheduled to appear in court a few days later on a case in which he was challenging on constitutional grounds Saskatchewan legislation against wearing gang colours in bars.
'Were the charges laid to prejudice Mr. Bitz in that matter?' Bodnar asked Const. Bryon Sommacal."

Matthew Thomas Ward, 33, is the sergeant-at-arms of the Finks' Perth chapter and the only permanent resident of the gang's Balga clubhouse.
But South Melbourne detectives have charged Mr Ward and the Finks' Port Melbourne chapter sergeant-at-arms with six offences each, including armed robbery, robbery, intentionally causing injury and making an unwarranted demand with menace, over a May 25 incident at Port Melbourne's Lorbek Prestige Cars dealership.

Mr Michail allegedly put the car dealer in a headlock and the pair told Mr Lorbek they would steal a Lamborghini Gallardo from the lot if he did not pay them $50,000.
They then allegedly took the car, which was recovered nearby.
Police said the gun has not been found."

Son of Hells Angels associate held after assault

Son of Hells Angels associate held after assault: "19-year-old son of a suspected Hells Angels associate is in custody following a daring daylight assault and robbery outside an Aldergrove community police office.
Caylen Pelletier is one of three men accused of running another man down in a car last Sunday.
Pelletier's father, Leonard, made headlines in 2007 after he and Caylen's then-14-year-old brother escaped severe injury after crashing their Hummer in a hail of gunfire near Peterson Road elementary school just as morning classes were beginning.
Langley RCMP received a call just after noon on Sunday from a young man complaining that three men had run him down in their car as he was walking in the 27000-block of the Fraser Highway.
The unidentified victim, who police said was visibly shaken by the incident, was walking to meet a friend in Aldergrove when a four-door Pontiac pulled up beside him."

Hell's Angels linked to Oildale stabbing - Bakersfield.com

Hell's Angels linked to Oildale stabbing - Bakersfield.com: "Investigation reports about a stabbing death about three weeks ago at a tattoo shop on North Chester Avenue indicate that it stemmed from a fight between two rival motorcycle gangs, the Vagos and the Hell's Angels.
If that proves to be the case, it would be the first Hell's Angels violence in Kern County in decades. One of the early leaders of the Hells Angels, Ralph 'Sonny' Barger of Oakland, wrote in his autobiographical book that about 40 or 50 of his group came to Bakersfield in the late 60s and 70s and got into fights at bars.
In recent years, the only people connected to the Hells Angels in Kern County were a Bakersfield couple convicted of assault and false imprisonment in a 2001 beating and robbery incident between rival gangs near Hanford.
The Bakersfield couple, David and Terri Wilson, were associates, not members, of the Hell's Angels, Kings County prosecutor Michael Rinehart said in 2004. The couple were among 16 members or associates of the notorious Hell's Angels that Rinehart prosecuted over the beating of two Exiles motorcycle club members and holding a woman against her will."

Drug sting puts two men in jail - Winnipeg Free Press

Drug sting puts two men in jail - Winnipeg Free Press: "Edwin Panting and Eric Sandberg were two of the most unlikely suspects nabbed last winter in an undercover police sting dubbed 'Project Divide'. The well-educated men had no prior criminal records or substance abuse issues and came from strong family backgrounds with plenty of community support. Neither had direct ties to the outlaw gang but were drawn in by others.
'The sole motivation here was greed,' Crown attorney Chris Mainella told court on Wednesday.
Panting, 25, and Sandberg, 28, were both sentenced to four and-a-half years behind bars, in addition to six months of time already served. Their guilty pleas mean 12 of the 31 suspects have now resolved their cases. Others caught in the criminal net included a former RCMP officer and the cousin of an NHL hockey player."

'Directing force' of violent drug ring sentenced eight years

'Directing force' of violent drug ring sentenced eight years: "Ottawa Hells Angels Nomads member who headed up a violent cocaine trafficking ring that aimed to take over the drug trade in communities along Highway 401 was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday.
However, despite admitting to being what a judge described as the 'directing force' of the group targeting Brockville, Prescott and Gananoque, Mario 'Five Cent' Sincennes' sentence ended up being two years less than that handed down to one of his underlings. Sincennes had managed to avoid much of the 'hands-on' involvement in the criminal organization.
Ontario Court Justice Ann Alder said the evidence against Sincennes may not have been as strong, but it was clear he was in charge of an organization that moved 'substantial' amounts of cocaine with 'total disregard' for consequences to drug users and the community at large.
'It destroys life, it terrorizes individuals, communities and it's all done for one reason only, and that is for greed and that is for profit and that is not acceptable,' Alder said, adding Sincennes would have faced a sentence of more than 10 years had he been convicted at trial.
Sincennes, 46, pleaded guilty to conspiring with a criminal organization to traffic cocaine, conspiring with a criminal organization to possess the proceeds of crime and instructing someone to commit a criminal offence for the benefit of a criminal organization."

Crime Scene - Life in the Outlaw motorcycle gang

Crime Scene - Life in the Outlaw motorcycle gang: "Each member of the gang, officially known as the American Outlaw Association, must own an American-made bike.
Members are allowed in only after a probationary period, during which they may be called on to do menial tasks to 'earn the respect' of the members. Membership requires a unanimous vote of the chapter.
Federal prosecutors in Virginia outlined the gang's practices in a 50-page indictment unsealed this week.
Twenty-three current or former members and four associates are accused of participating in a criminal enterprise that engaged in crimes including assaults, drug dealing and illegal gambling.
The indictment details the criminal allegations against the group. As a longtime police and courts reporter, however, I also found that it offered an unusual window into the inner workings of what federal officials say is a highly-organized group.
Members belong to a chapter that has a president, vice-president, treasurer and an enforcer, the indictment explains. Chapters are grouped into regions run by a boss. And a national president oversees the organization.
Members wear leather or denim vests on which they display patches, according to court papers. One patch shows the club emblem, a skull with crossed pistons.
Another patch reads 'Snitches are a Dying Breed,' which authorities say shows a 'commitment to identify, expel, and, if necessary, murder' people associated with the club who cooperate with law enforcement."

Outlaws: Feds blasted our building

Outlaws: Feds blasted our building: "two local members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club were facing organized crime charges.
Federal agents stormed the Hickory Outlaws clubhouse on Newton's North Main Avenue at about 6 a.m. They blasted through a brick and cinderblock wall, creating an explosion that club members said shattered windows in a house across the street.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was responsible for the raid, said Special Agent Mike Campbell.
Neighbors said they heard a boom so strong it shook houses. A charred hole with square edges is on the building's south wall.
The U.S. Marshals' Special Operations Group forced their way into the building, Campbell said.
Longtime Hickory Outlaws say no one was in the building when a shape charge was used to blast through their wall.
During the raid, agents seized a number of signs, photographs and other memorabilia.
The Hickory Outlaws say they cooperate with local law enforcement, and that the SWAT-style tactics used by federal agents were unnecessary."

The Associated Press: Biker killed in Maine in shootout with ATF agents

The Associated Press: Biker killed in Maine in shootout with ATF agents: "Federal agents attempting to arrest two members of the Outlaws motorcycle gang as part of a seven-state sweep shot and killed one of them in an early morning gunfight Tuesday.
More than two dozen Outlaws members across the country were charged Tuesday in Virginia with participating in a criminal enterprise.
A SWAT team from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was fired upon at about 6 a.m. while attempting to arrest Thomas 'Tomcat' Mayne, 59, the regional treasurer for the Outlaws, along with Kenneth Chretian, according to ATF spokesman Michael Campbell.
Mayne was killed. Two women also were in the house, but nobody else was injured in the shootout, according to the attorney general's office.
The SWAT team was used because the ATF viewed the suspects as being part of a 'violent criminal enterprise,' said Glenn N. Anderson, ATF special agent in charge of the Boston office. He said the agents were fired at when they arrived.
Authorities found a shotgun and a handgun inside the house after the shooting."

Outlaws motorcycle gang members indicted in Virginia

Outlaws motorcycle gang members indicted in Virginia: "Mark Steven Fiel, known as 'Snuff,' 59, who officials say is president of the Outlaws' Manassas/Shenandoah Valley chapter. Four other alleged members of that Virginia chapter were indicted. So was Jack Rosga, a.k.a. 'Milwaukee Jack,' 53, the Outlaws' national boss.
The 50-page indictment, handed up Thursday and unsealed Tuesday, provides a window into what authorities say is a highly organized and violent gang that operates using a well-defined chain of command and a strict code.
Members, who become part of the gang only by a unanimous chapter vote that follows a probationary period, earn patches to show their loyalty. They pay dues, can be taxed to cover a member's legal costs and may be beaten if they break club rules, according to the indictment.
The Outlaws' 'entire environment revolves around violence,' said Neil H. MacBride, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, where the indictment was secured."

Outlaws National President Jack Rosga and 26 others are named in a 12-count indictment that also lists robbery, extortion, witness intimidation, drug dealing, illegal gambling and weapons violations.
One member of the motorcycle gang was killed in a shootout in Old Orchard, Maine, as authorities tried to execute an arrest warrant relating to the indictment, said Mike Campbell, spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Campbell said members of an ATF Special Response Team pulled up to a house in Old Orchard to arrest Thomas Mayne and Kenneth Chretien when shots were fired at them from the house. ATF agents returned fire, killing one person, Campbell said.

When justice is not seen to be done | The Australian

When justice is not seen to be done | The Australian: "Sandro Totani is a member of the Finks motorcycle gang whose lawyers are attempting to persuade the court that South Australia's Serious and Organised Crime (Control) Act - the model for anti-bikie laws in several states - is unconstitutional.
Totani had a win in the first leg of the case last year, when a full bench of the Supreme Court found the law was invalid because it compelled the courts to accept secret evidence they couldn't review.
The judges said this made them 'an instrument of the executive' and 'destroyed the court's integrity'. The court ruled that the right of an accused person to know the evidence against them is 'fundamental to the rule of law'.
The South Australian government is now seeking to have that judgment overturned and its law reinstated.
The hearing has become an important test case, with the attorneys-general of NSW, Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland, the Northern Territory and the commonwealth all intervening to support the use of secret evidence. All of them face the risk of laws being overturned if criminal intelligence is declared unconstitutional."

Gang boss rips up truce with rivals

Gang boss rips up truce with rivals: "leader of the Banditos motorcycle gang, Jim Tinndahn, has personally torn to pieces a 12-year-old truce made with rivals Hells Angels after the latter allegedly recruited Banditos members in Aalborg, reports Politiken newspaper.
According to Tinndahn, the Hells Angels recruited six former Banditos members from the gang’s two Aalborg chapters – an action which he said was in clear violation of the spirit of the agreement.
Tinndahn, who is head of the Banditos for all of Europe and Asia, said the only way to patch up the problem was for the six new Hells Angels recruits to leave Denmark. Sweden would probably not be an option for them, however, as that is Tinndahn’s home country.
But the Swede said he hoped the ‘reasonable’ leaders from the gangs would be able to resolve the conflict.
‘It makes me angry and it makes all Banditos angry,’ Tinndahl told Politiken. ‘But we still have some back doors open where the groups can talk to each other.’
Tinndahl said he doubted ripping up the truce would lead to renewed violence between the two gangs. He added, however, that he could not control every single Banditos member – mentioning in particular the younger ones.
‘I can say to them that we don’t want any trouble, and we can also say to them that if they go into the city they have to have higher-ranking members with them. But that’s a bit more difficult,’ he said.
Kim Kliver, the head of the National Police’s investigation centre, said the police would be keeping an eye on the situation."

Their lawyers sought an injunction to block the examinations, arguing that not only were the commission's search and arrest warrants invalid but so was a secret meeting in a Darwin hotel room between the country's police commissioners to finalise the raids.
The Federal Court rejection of their challenge means 12 of the bikie bosses will be quizzed about their present, future and past involvement in the Hells Angels as long ago as 19 years. Their identities have been suppressed."

Man used biker claims to terrorize girlfriends

Man used biker claims to terrorize girlfriends: "31-year-old man who pretended to be an outlaw biker so his girlfriends wouldn't report it when he raped, beat and stole from them was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday.
Peter Guido admitted that he pretended to be a member of the elite Hells Angels Nomads and routinely told the two women that their lives would be at risk if they didn't submit to his demands for money and sex.
'Mr. Guido lived a parasitic lifestyle off each of these women in an atmosphere of fear that he carefully created and manipulated through lies and threats,' said Ontario Court Justice Lynn Ratushny.
Ratushny said Guido gained each woman's trust, and once in a relationship, began lying and bragging about his supposed connections to the Hells Angels -- including that he was the nephew of their president Paul 'Sasquatch' Porter -- and about disposing of dead bodies."
